Mighty Men
Mighty Men is a mentoring project that works to build positive futures for young men living in inner-city Liverpool, with the long term aims of reducing crime and violence and improving family lives.
Our principal Mentor, Dave Sharples, is known in neighbourhoods across Liverpool for his work with Kidz Klub and Mighty Men and for his extensive visits with Liverpool families over the last 15 years.
The Mighty Men project provides positive role models for young men and in turn raises them up as mentors to those even younger than them.
How does it work?
Mighty Men operates through small group and individual mentoring, fun social activities and team building exercises, as well as offering wider support from a large church community.
- Mentoring is a key part of Mighty Men’s strategy to tackle issues at their roots by meeting emotional and relational needs, giving the young men a sense of belonging and an opportunity to share their problems with people who understand and care.
- They are also introduced to a greater number of positive role models than many of them have had exposure to in the past through a large church community, which can also widen their employment and housing opportunities. This interaction with Frontline’s wider church community has a positive influence on young men as they are inspired to aim for better things for their lives than they might do so otherwise.
- The project also invests in building relationships with the families of the young men who are being mentored. We seek to establish a sense of hope and encouragement at the core of families as they believe that their sons will have a positive future.
